Flower Farm vs. Trader Joe’s

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room! We love Trader Joe’s for so many things. But for a special event, you want special flowers.

If you’re debating between getting flowers from a local flower farm or Trader Joe’s, here’s why the farm wins every time.

  • Abundance: Flower farms give you bigger bunches (10 stems not 3-5 per bunch), so you get more blooms to play with for your bouquets and centerpieces. In peak seasons, flower farmers are often give surprise bonuses!

  • Freshness: Local flowers are fresher since they’re picked at their peak and haven’t been picked over, sitting in storage or shipped for days. That means they’ll look better and last longer.

  • Selection: When it comes to selection, our farm offers unique, seasonal varieties that don’t ship well and you won’t find at a big store like Trader Joe’s.

Going with a local farm like us not only supports your community but also gives your wedding flowers a fresh, beautiful, and personal touch.

Available flower varieties

The fun part! Flower availability changes often which is why we don’t guarantee specific varieties or colors. But I can share what’s commonly blooming in North Carolina’s popular wedding seasons:

  • Early Spring (March/April): Ranunculus, anemones, narcissus, tulips, delphinium, dianthus

  • Late Spring (April/May): Peonies, hydrangeas, bells of Ireland, snapdragons, sweet peas

  • Early Summer (May/June): Sunflowers, zinnias, canterbury bells, feverfew, godetia

  • Early Fall (September/October): Dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, amaranth, cosmos, ageratum

  • Late Fall (October/November): Dahlias, chrysanthemums, eucalyptus, grasses

View our annual flower calendar to see what we’re planting this year. You’ll see, by week, which flowers and colors are generally available. Click the flower names to see sample photos.

Because weather, pests, and other things happen, this is a planning tool, not a guarantee of availability. But it will help you visualize what is usually in season when.

Flower bunch color options

Our bulk flower bunches are available in two color palettes: pastel and bold.

We prioritize beauty and freshness, so the exact flower varieties and colors depend on the season and what looks best in the field that week. I try to honor color requests but they are not guaranteed on bulk bunch orders.

Based on what’s beautiful, I select 1-3 colors from a palette per client order. Colors are consistent across all items in a single order, unless you specifically request “rainbow colors.” Not all colors are available every week.

How many bulk wedding flower stems do I need?

Determining your flower quantities depends upon your event size, arranging style and how many containers you want to fill.

Generally, 1 10-stem bunch =

  • 2-3 bud vases OR

  • 1-2 small vases (mason jar) OR

  • <1 large vases (statement piece)
